In 2007 we decided that our master bath needed significant updating and asked a superintendent who had worked on our addition in 2000 for his recommendation. Without hesitation he recommended Harry Grube. We were familiar with Harry because he had been part of another job at our home and we had been very pleased with his work.
Harry Grube did an outstanding job on our bathroom redo. He was professional, trustworthy, polite and his work was of the highest quality. He also has an instinctive grasp of many design elements that most contractors do not have. He went to great pains to make sure that the work environment was always clean and that there was no adverse impact on the rest of the house. The job was completed on schedule and within budget.
As a result of that pleasant experience, we asked Harry to update all of the other bathrooms and the result was again the same. Not once did the job get "out of hand" with regard to cost or scheduling.
In 2008 we tasked Harry with a much more challenging job, that being the renovation of our kitchen and adjoining keeping room. Once again the results exceeded our expectations.
Since then we have had Harry supervise the painting of both our home in Raleigh and our home at the beach. We wanted someone to manage the projects as well as to ensure that any repairs were made in a quality and professional manner. Both projects were completed to our total satisfaction.
To sum up, we would NEVER hesitate to ask Harry to do any job and we would unequivocally recommend him to anyone. He is a professional: dependable and with a high degree of integrity. His work environments are always meticulously clean and he goes to great lengths to ensure that the customer is fully satisfied.

We purchased a 1925 Italian style home in Hayes Barton in 1993 which required extensive renovation. The project was complex, and required matching antique multi-colored slate tiling on the roof, formulating and matching brick, and interior work with old pipes and walls. In addition, we added two new wings on either side to bring the project to 8500 sq. ft. Harry was responsible both for the renovations and the new construction. We lived with Harry and his crew for years.
We were pleased that we could recently retain Harry again for renovations on the second floor, and again Harry and his crew were here for the summer.
There are a few points to consider when choosing a contractor for renovations. The first is that price is irrelevant in renovations because change orders and surprises come up. Once a contractor gets into your house and starts tearing things up, you are completely at their mercy on further negotiations. We found that Harry was tremendously honest and useful in this regard; his estimates are the real thing. This is rare among renovators.
The other point to consider is that you will be waiving with your contractor for a long period of time as well as the crew and people he associates with. Harry's treatment of your home, personal space, and even pets is extraordinary. For one example out of many I could choose: we have two dogs and four cats. Some are allowed in certain areas of the house, others not; if certain of them escape they would be lost. Harry was better at this than you could imagine. We also had serious family illnesses during that time and his respect and care about these things is, as they say in the commercial, priceless. I trust this many with my family and personal possessions.

I can sum up my kitchen renovation with one simple sentence... Harry Grube rocks!! My kitchen renovation was extensive and took almost 1 year to complete. I was livingg in the house during the whole time, so I watched the progress every day.
The work that Harry did is fabulous. He doesn't skimp anywhere. The quality of the work was awesome. Harry was a pleasure to work with and all of his subcontractors were top notch. Everyone was polite and tidy. When I came home from work every day, the house was clean; there was never any debris or trash left over from that day's work -- and that was a real treat!
I would highly recommend Harry to anyone looking for renovation work.
